  1. At the moment I know 2 languages fluently and the other one is still in the process. Maybe adding one or two will be just fine. There are languages that I find really interesting and I want to learn that. I guess The maximum I will try to learn is 4-5 languages.
  2. I saw a video about learning new languages. I just want to share it.
  3. Hi Quinzelle, welcome to linguaholics. I'm sure you will enjoy being a member of this forum. There are many tips and info available that can be very helpful in learning new languages. Have fun.
  4. I watch movies with subtitles, but I don't use it to learn a new language. I just do it because I like the movie but not for other reason. I watch korean movies, french movies and japanese movies. I'm using subtitles everytime I watch those kind of movies.
  5. I love watching movies. I like Korean movies, although I can just understand it because of the subtitles.I also like watching English movies. One of my favorites is The blind side of Sandra Bullock. I like the plot of the story. The story is based on the life of Michael Oher, a professional football player. His struggles in life and how he became one of the famous player with the help of a white rich woman named Leigh Anne Tuohy and her family.
  6. In learning new language, I saw a books that seem too complicated for me. I did not continue reading it. Instead of helping me learn, I got confused. Another thing I avoid is stressing or pushing my self too much in learning. If I'm tired or if I can feel that I need to rest, I rest then just start again after resting.
  7. I read a lot to improve my vocabularies, if I find a word that I don't know, I will surely get a dictionary to look for a meaning. So to me reading is really helping me. I also watch movies, that also helps me.
  8. I want to learn this language because it will really help me in my job. There was one time that I had a spanish patient who can't speak English. I really had a hard time communicating with him. I have a very limited spanish words and that did not help me at that time. I realized the importance of learning a new language. I should not be satisfied with what I learned, instead I need to strive harder in learning more.
  9. Try watching a videos or movies in spanish. If you can find someone you can talk to in spanish the better. Another thing you can do is read books that are written in spanish. I also feel the same with my german, it's been a year since I heard a real conversation. And there are many words that I already forgot.
  10. This is fun, in my first try I got 250. I really need to learn more. I got confused with the other words. It seems the same for me. I will try again later.
  11. Hi Nkaujntses, welcome to linguaholic. When I was reading your intro I was thinking what is Hmong? Now I know. It's an additional info for me. Again welcome and enjoy.
  12. When I was studying german, the first few days I also dreamt of it, maybe because I'm so excited at that time. Everything is new and I was really overwhelmed. Even before going to sleep I talk about it with my cousin, who is also learning the language with me.
  13. I'm learning new language for personal purposes. I just use the language I learned if I'm traveling but not to be a teacher. I think I don't have the quality of being a teacher.
  14. Thanks, this thread is very helpful. I'm really interested in this language. I'm starting to learn few words and phrases already. Thanks for sharing it.
  15. I can say it is mix for me, sometimes I'm thinking in my native language but half of it I'm thinking in English. It begun since I worked in the US. It really did affect the way I think.
  16. I been asking myself the same question. I'm studying german with my cousin, but she moved to another country recently and from then on I 'm having a hard to to focus. I lost my drive.
  17. I think it just depends on how their parent will raise them. I have a cousin who was born and raised in the US but can speak our native language. My aunt make sure that it's the language she learned first. She knows that my cousin can still learn english in school and since they live in the US she can constantly hear it and that will make it easier for her to learn.
  18. Hi Eva, yes you are right that it's easier to learn it your in the place wherein you can practice and hear constantly the language you are learning. I'm not giving up. As the old saying goes "if there's a will, there's a way"
  19. I know some who migrated to US and when they were young and now they can't speak their native language. They started speaking english and use it everyday so they can learn faster. The problem is, they are now fluent in english but don't know how to speak their native language. They can understand, but they can't speak anymore.
  20. I agree with you that it is safer to take TOEFL than IELTS. In my case I can take any of the two and I selected IELTS. There are some jobs and universities that preferred TOEFL than IELTS.
  21. Hallo Eva, welcome to linguaholics. I used to worked in Chicago and I also been to germany last year. I stayed there for few mos for a vacation. I'm also trying to learn German at the moment. I find it hard to do that since I don't hear it very often unlike when I was there. Anyway, I hope you will also enjoy being here as much as we do.
  22. Welcome Eruvande, you said you love languages, this forum is right for you. I'm sure you will enjoy interacting with fellow members. Have fun!
  23. I started learning English, since I started studying. I was 6 at that time. It is included in our curriculum. I'm very thankful because I was able to learn at a very young age. Now that I'm older I can use it in pursuing my chosen career. I can work to foreign country without too much difficulty adjusting because of the language barrier.
  24. I agree with this. I can learn any language but the problem will I be going to use it regularly. I'm learning German, because I want to learn more about the country, people and culture. I'm also looking for a possibility of moving there in the future. I think what ever language that you think can help you in the future is the right choice to learn.
  25. For me English is the easiest language to learn. I'm saying this because I started learning since I was a kid. Now that I'm older and trying to learn another language, it is very hard now. I guess learning new language varies from person to person. I can say English is easiest for me, but not for others.I guess, it just depends on the person learning.
