Japanese Name Generator

Generate random Japanese names in romaji — male or female, with surname, in Japanese or Western order — for characters, anime, and language learning.

What is a Japanese name generator?

A Japanese name generator creates random Japanese names in romaji (Latin letters), pairing a common given name with a common surname. Choose male or female names and either name order. It is perfect for characters, anime and manga, games, and language practice.

    How to use it

    1. Choose a gender and how many names you want.
    2. Pick the order: Given Surname or Surname Given.
    3. Press Generate, then Copy all.

    Japanese name order

In Japan, the family name comes first — for example Tanaka Haruto (surname Tanaka, given name Haruto). In English contexts the given name usually comes first (Haruto Tanaka). The tool supports both so you can match your context.

    Real romaji names

The generator uses authentic, common Japanese given names and surnames written in romaji, so the results read naturally. Note that a single romaji name can be written with many different kanji, so kanji is not shown — but the romaji is ready to use anywhere.

    Frequently asked questions

How does the Japanese name generator work?
Choose a gender, a name order, and how many names you want, then press Generate. Each result pairs a common Japanese given name with a common Japanese surname, written in romaji (Latin letters).
Which name order should I use?
In Japan the family name comes first (Surname Given), e.g. Tanaka Haruto. In English contexts the given name usually comes first (Given Surname). The tool offers both — pick whichever fits your use.
Are the names real Japanese names?
Yes — the tool uses common real Japanese given names and surnames in romaji, so they are authentic and natural for characters, anime, and practice.
    Does it show kanji?
This generator shows romaji (romanised) names only. A single romaji name can be written with many different kanji, so kanji is not included, but the romaji is ready to use anywhere.
    Is it free and private?
Yes — it runs entirely in your browser with no sign-up, and nothing is uploaded.
