  1. I don't text, but I do use the online instant chat in which I have downloaded the app on my phone. I usually try to use complete sentences and good grammars the best I can because I don't want to loose myself on that. I still have to follow the grammar rules and be able to use them ccorrectly, regardless I text or not. I want to make sure people will understand and not think I'm being goofy just because I text or send out instant messages doesn't mean I don't need to warch my grammars or something.
  2. English is my second language, which I have learned it when I was in elementary school. I think English isn't difficult to learn because I have learned the concept and rules. It is the easiest language I have ever learned comparing to Chinese and French. I think once you've known and learned the basis of English, it is not hard at all.
  3. I think English has become the world's language. There are almost everyone tries to learn English sometime in their life, which I think English is the primary language in the universe. English has become the language for a lot of things such as communication, international business, and so on.
  4. I am a huge fan of English Literature, which makes me enjoy reading classic books. There is a difference between Literature and Fiction, which I sometimes think they are interrelated but they're not. To me, Literature means it is beyond my normal novels, a piece of work that means more than the story itself. It includes style, tone, characters, and more. Literature is more complex than fiction, which I strongly think Literature is what we don't get much into these days. What does Literature mean to you?
  5. Welcome to the community! Enjoy your stay. Happy Holidays!
  6. I think Emily Brontë is by far the best authors out of the sisters in the family. I really like the book "Wuthering Height", which it is one of my favorite classic novels that I have ever read in school. Her writing is unique and classic, which is sometimes quite hard for me to understand but her style is very original and makes readers to attach the book to their hands at all times.
  7. There's one series that has inspired me a lot especially when I am down and sometimes don't know what's the purpose of living my life. The book is called "Christy Miller", which is a Christian Contemporary fiction series written by Robin Jones Gunn. What concepts and ideas of the series is that it is very inspirational and teaches me a lot of things that I haven't discovered yet, especially it relates to a religious relief but not too much like other books. I can't wait to reread the whole series again, it is just as good as I have expected.
  8. I remember when I first learned English, the only way i could practice English was talking with my classmates. I often find books that were in English language to read, which helped me to improve my vocabulary words and understand the grammars more effectively that way. I didn't try to talk to other people just practice English because I didn't usually start a conversation unless I knew what I was going to ask or say.
  9. It depends on what I have to learn. I used to have a Kindle, which I mainly used for reading because that was the reason why I bought the Kindle e-reader. I don't usually download apps for learning purpose because it is meant to be used as a learning tool because it is not like other tablets which are dedicated for learning.
  10. I think "banana" and "umbrella" are very difficult for me to pronounce because I am not able to say them the correct way. Some people have a hard understand me when I try to say them, which I try but still can't get it the right pronunciations. I think it has something to do with using my tongue or something.
  11. I think the word that sounds very funny is "banana", which I always have a time trying to pronounce it right. I often pronounce it "ban-na-na", which I can't imagine I can be able to say it the right way. It also sounds funny and strange.
  12. 你好, Welcome to the forum! Which Chinese dialogue are you currently learning? I am assuming Mandarin, am I correct? Enjoy your stay. Keep up the good works! Maybe we can speak Chinese sometime, eh.
  13. I don't use the physical dictionary book anymore because it takes me a long time trying to find the word if I'm in a hurry. I usually use the online website called Dictionary, which offers the meaning of the words and sentence example. I sometime use the Webster Dictionary online, especially when I search for some technical terms. The good thing about the online dictionary is that you can listen to the pronunciation, which is a big help to me.
  14. I believe 把 is rather a helping, which it is unnecessary to use in the sentence. I think the sentence still makes sense without the word 把。In Chinese language, there are words that are unnecessary because they don't make a big difference in a sentence. Nice post about this!
  15. I think it depends on personal preference. I have known a customer who speak 9 languages, which i think is too much because i don't think I'm able to keep track of so many languages. Not to mention 2 or 3 languages are already too much for me because I tend to focus on only 2 languages. It really depends on whether or not the person is willing to learn the languages.
  16. I learned English when I was in elementary school, which was my second language. It has helped me a lot because I came to the United States where English is the primary language. I think English is very useful because I am able to communicate with other people who speak the language. Learning English has been very beneficial for me in the long run.
  17. I have seen a few plays when I was in middle and high school. All of the plays I have seen were from Shakespeare's works. My favorite play is "Twelfth Night", which has some funny dialogues, and the storyline is excellent.
  18. Wow. Very interesting to see all the favorite kanji here. I don't have specific favorite kanji, but I do see some of them are similar to Chinese characters. I would say my favorite kanji is 月, which is moon in translation.
  19. Welcome to the forum! I have learned French in high school, which was hard for me to learn. I hope I can learn it again in the future. It's nice to meet you!
  20. I used to have trouble distinguishing between "lose" and "loose", which I have learned that "lose" has only one "o" whereas "loose" has two "o"s. Another way I would distinguish is that "loose" tend to pronounce longer, which the double "o" is pronounced. Meaning wise, I would try to remember that "lose" has lost one "o", which becomes "lose". (If that makes sense.)
  21. I have not heard of saying "神马", which I thought it means special horse or something. I don't really know that many Chinese slangs and would learn them because I like to learn the proper way of Chinese language. I would say it depends the region and providence, which people use slangs differently from city to city.
  22. This is something I have heard in the past that's similar to the article. I think it is always better to know at least two languages because it can be very useful in the future. Plus, some companies would hire those who are bilingual. School would try so hard to push students to be bilinguals, which is why some of them have already started learning a second language as part of the curriculum, especially in high school.
  23. I usually read alone because that's how I can focus better. I don't read aloud but I like to read books in a quiet place without any disruption. I tend to think as I read because that how my imagination comes to alive. I can think of a lot of things based on the story and characters, but I cannot do that if I read in a place where there's a disruption.
  24. I think English is the easiest language to learn comparing to other languages. However, not many people think so because English is different and quite tricky unless you have learned all the rules. I have learned English since I am a little kid, which I thought English is so much easier to digest and remembered all the grammatical rules. I wish French is like that, which I think it is too difficult for me to learn.
  25. I would say Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night", which is a great book to read. The language is different in the book, which I have really paid close attention because it was difficult for me to read. I still like the book because it is classic, plus it has a great storyline. I would like to read it again someday when I have time.
