What is a bold text generator?

A bold text generator, also called a bold font generator, replaces each letter you type with a Unicode character that is drawn bold. Type “Sale ends Friday” and you get 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆. This is not formatting and it is not a font. Each bold letter is a separate character from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, which was added to Unicode so that formulas could tell a bold variable from a regular one.

Because the weight is part of the character, it travels with the text when you copy and paste. That makes it useful in the places that have no bold button: a Facebook post, a LinkedIn post, an Instagram bio or a post on X.

How to make bold text to copy and paste

1. Type or paste your text in the box. Only type the words you want in bold.
2. Pick one of the eight bold styles. They all update as you type.
3. Tap the style, or its Copy button.
4. Paste it into your post, bio or message, next to your normal text.

The eight bold styles

The underline is a combining mark placed after each letter. Most apps draw it as one continuous line, but in some fonts it shows small gaps between letters.

Sans-serif bold or serif bold?

Serifs are the small strokes at the ends of letters in book and newspaper type. Sans-serif letters have none. The tool gives you both: 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁 is sans-serif and 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭 is serif.

Social apps set their own text in sans-serif fonts, so sans-serif bold blends in. It looks as if the app had a bold button and you pressed it. Serif bold stands out more, because it differs from the surrounding text in shape as well as in weight. Use sans-serif for a heading line in a post, and serif when you want the words to look deliberately different.

Bold alphabet to copy and paste

Both complete bold alphabets, for when you only need a letter or two. Tap a tile to copy a single bold letter, or Copy all to take the whole set.

Bold numbers

Unicode has bold digits in both sans-serif (𝟬𝟭𝟮𝟯𝟰𝟱𝟲𝟳𝟴𝟵) and serif (𝟎𝟏𝟐𝟑𝟒𝟓𝟔𝟕𝟖𝟗), so prices, dates and times can be bold too: “Open 24 hours” becomes 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝟮𝟰 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀.

There are no bold italic, bold cursive or bold gothic digits. In those styles the letters change and the numbers stay plain, so “Top 10 tips” in Bold Italic comes out as 𝙏𝙤𝙥 10 𝙩𝙞𝙥𝙨. If numbers matter, stick to Bold or Serif Bold. Punctuation, symbols such as $ and %, and accented letters such as é and ñ have no bold versions either. They are left exactly as you typed them.

How to bold text on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and X

None of these has a bold button in its standard post box, which is why people paste bold Unicode characters instead. The method is the same everywhere: make the bold words here, copy them, and paste them into place.

Facebook bold text

Bold characters work in posts, comments and your profile bio. A common use is a bold first line that acts as a headline, such as 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, followed by the details in plain text. Your profile name is the exception: Facebook expects a real name in ordinary letters.

LinkedIn bold text

They work in posts, comments, your headline and the About section. Most people bold the opening line of a post or short labels like 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀. Read the accessibility section below before you bold anything in your headline.

Bold fonts for Instagram

Paste them into the name field, your bio, captions and comments. The @username cannot be bold, because it only allows plain letters, numbers, underscores and periods. Keep hashtags and @mentions plain, or they stop working as links.

X (Twitter)

Bold characters work in your display name, bio and posts. X counts most of them as two characters toward its limit, so bold a few words and leave the remainder of the post plain.

Where you don't need a generator

Some apps have real bold formatting. Use it when it exists. Real bold stays searchable, and screen readers handle it properly.

Discord's Markdown only applies to messages. For a bold display name, nickname or channel name you still need pasted characters. The Discord Text Formatter covers the message side.

Bold text and accessibility, especially on LinkedIn

Screen readers do not see 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 as three words. Depending on the software, they spell it out one character at a time, announce each letter as a mathematical symbol, or skip it. A whole post in bold Unicode can be unreadable for someone who relies on one.

Search has the same blind spot. Bold characters are not the same characters as plain letters, so a search for a plain word will not match its bold version. On LinkedIn this matters more than anywhere else: a job title or skill written in bold in your headline can be missed by the very searches you want to appear in.

• Bold one short line or label, not whole paragraphs.
• Keep names, job titles, skills, dates and prices in plain text.
• Never bold a hashtag or a link.

Why bold text shows as boxes for some people

A device can only draw a character if one of its fonts contains it. Current phones and computers include the bold alphabets. Some older ones do not, and they show an empty box or a question mark in place of each letter. You cannot fix that from your side, which is one more reason to keep the important part of a message in plain text.
