  1. I think it would take me about one year to learn a whole language. Although some people learn at different paces, I have never met someone who was exceptionally quick at learning languages. How long do you think it would take you to learn a new language?
  2. To maintain languages I have already learned I just speak them all the time. The best way to retain a language you have learned is to speak that language all the time. If you could have a full blown conversation with someone who speaks your learned language, would be great indeed. There are tons of methods on the internet that can be used to teach yourself these methods.
  3. Words with no vowels seem very strange to me. They seem strange to me, because it is almost impossible to have words with no vowels. After thinking about it though I can fully understand how such a thing is actually possible. There are english words that have no vowels, it is just not common.
  4. I agree, some people don't sound good with any characters. I watched a recent released Dragonball movie a little while ago, and I must admit. Goku did not sound like his normal self. I like subbed versions, because it is sort of like a reading exercise for myself. It is pretty much the only reading I get throughout a period of time.
  5. This thread made me realize just how useful Rosetta Stone could be. I have never used Rosetta Stone, but I would love to. Rosetta Stone looks like it helps everyone, pursuing a new language. It is definitely something I could look to trying in the future.
  6. I would move to a new country, even if I did not know their native language. There is always a chance for you to learn a new language at any point in your life. Moving to a new country and learning a new language there might be easier, because there will be a fluent speaker for sure. Have never done something like that, nor knew anyone who has done so.
  7. Yes, that has happened to me before as well. You are right though, looks can be very deceiving when trying to perceive someone. Sometimes people look as if they have never left their foreign country, but that does not mean that can't speak your native language. Can't judge a book by its cover.
  8. There are a couple of languages that are attractive to me. The most attractive language to me is French. French is a very sexy voice, especially when women use it. I also like the sound of Latin when used my women as well. There is nothing better than a Mexican woman.
  9. Those are some great ingredients for learning just about anything. Learning languages can be completed as long as you have some type of determination and push to complete such a task.
  10. That is a great feat for anyone. Learning another language is a hard task to complete itself. Learning 20 languages is also hard for anyone. I can just imagine his work ethic. That is living proof that the sky is the limit.
  11. The longest I have gone without speaking to someone is probably an hour or two. There are so many ways for people to communicate nowadays. There are days when I haven't spoken to someone in person for hours, but I am always communicating verbally in some way.
  12. I think if everyone spoke one language the world itself would be better communication wise. I also think if everyone spoke one language there would be less diversity in the world. The world needs diversity, and originality to strive.
  13. I don't think learning another language should be mandatory in any school. The reason I would support that, is because some people may never need another language in life. Although I think learning another language should be enforced in colleges. The reason I think learning another language should be enforced in colleges, is because they are beneficial to anyone learning them.
  14. Teaching a foreign language in another country would require a level of education. I don't think you could just be anyone, and teach children another language. That is definitely something that is worth looking into.
  15. I have faced the same problem learning Spanish. When I use to study Spanish in school, I would always forget when the class was officially over. The only thing I can recommend when learning languages is maximize your repetitions. Try to practice a lot but focus on one thing. By that I mean practice one thing a lot.
  16. I don't know about this one. It is a great riddle considering it is not a mirror. The only other option I could come up with would be his step-brother or god brother. It is a form of sibling but not exactly complete DNA relations. It might also be his father's son but not his mother.
  17. That is a quite intriguing video. I have always wondered how English sounded to non-English speakers. I kind of underestimated English's learning difficulty. In my opinion I think English is the easiest language you could ever learn. Although for some English would be difficult to learn.
  18. It is actually scientifically proven that learning multiple languages can have beneficial results on your body and mind. It is said that being bilingual can help reduce risk of dementia. What is your take on learning multiple languges?
  19. English is not a part of my education. English was my native tongue, so it came pretty natural to me. I think if I actually did have to learn English it would be easily done, because English is the easiest language to learn.
  20. My favorite English word is piper. I don't know why but it sounds so good. I am a big fan of a lot of English words, I can't think of a lot at the moment though.
  21. I cannot really think about which one I use. I just said it a few times now. I usually say "an" but due to my voice it can be interpreted as "a". That was a great question, that really made me think.
  22. I am not the type to stress over an exam that I know I studied for. If it is a exam that I know I did not work hard on, I may stress a little bit. Although if I did not study I am always on edge and tense while taking the test.
  23. If we never had languages, how would people be able to communicate. Do you guys ever think about the need for language in life?
  24. I have never had to translate in this situation. On the other hand, I always translate languages, especially when doing school work. Whenever I do school work I usually translate whatever I don't know.
  25. I have heard of plenty people who use that method to learn languages. I myself could use such a method to learn languages, because I already do something similar. Every week I read Manga, which is a Japanese comic. I also watch Anime which is in Japanese and is subbed in English.
