Which languages are you referring to Lasonax? Actually I feel the same about Asian Pop Music: I also kind of enjoy Asian Pop Music, while, at the same, really hating European Pop. However, I am not sure whether Asian Pop Music is really better than European Pop Music in terms of Quality, Lyrics, and so on...it's maybe just that it is in a foreign language that makes it somehow special or let's say more magic :wacky:

Great post, Eppie! Just as Miya, I would be really grateful if you could provide the Chinese equivalents :wacky: I will think about the meaning of the last three ones.

Difference between 'elegant' and 'smart'
linguaholic replied to Mark Skype Teacher's topic in English Vocabulary
That pretty much reflects my point of view about that matter -
When do you consider yourself to be "done"?
linguaholic replied to Lasonax's topic in Language Learning
That's a tough question, Lasonax :wacky: Well, in my opinion, it always depends on why and for what reason you are learning a language. If it is just some kind of a hobby to learn let's say Language X, I would be probably satisfied if I could just reach conversational level in it. If you need Language X 'jobwise', thinks are different though. In this case, I would try to reach perfection in this language. This does of course not mean that I would study it forever, however I would try to reach a very high degree of fluency and I would definitely want to know all about the syntax and the grammar about that particular language. Still, I would not try to master every single idiom and every exotic phrase in that language, that's a sure thing. -
Hey SoBizarre I just listened to the audio file. The person in the Audio File is saying "Des isch(t) gut". This actually means "This is good" in English. It is not standard high german, therefore it is not very easy to understand. In standard high german this sentence would need to be "Das ist gut". Hope that helps. If you need help with different audio files, let me know. I will be glad to help. regards lingua

Mnemonics for Hiragana
linguaholic replied to Coricopat's topic in Japanese Hiragana & Katakana Scripts
I definitely agree, Lasonax. If you are serious about studying Japanese, learning Hiragana should be a piece of cake and you should have enough motivation to just learn them by heart without help of mnemonics. :wacky: -
That's interesting g2narat. I will try to come up with some more soon

Your First French Movie?
linguaholic replied to SpringBreeze's topic in French Language | Discussion
My first french movie was probably 'La Haine', which features the amazing actor 'Vincent Cassel'. You probably all know him from the film 'Black Swan'. If you haven't seen 'La Haine' yet, you should definitely give it a try! It's superb. -
Does anybody have a clue what 我用牢騷炸 could mean? I can also provide the context, if necessary. I just don't get the meaning of this sentence. regards lingua

English practice
linguaholic replied to caparica007's topic in English Lounge - Conversations in English only
I can't find any mistake in this text, Trellum. However, your English is better than mine anyway, so I'm not of much help here. The only thing I was wondering about in your text, concerns the following sentence: 'I really need to practice my English right now, because I'm studying to apply for a really nice online job that requires me to have a perfect spoken English, sadly I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge' I guess after 'sure' you could input an IF or a WHETHER, right? I doubt that it is compulsory, though..it is just slightly elliptic like this :=) -
That is a lovely idiom! I will try to use this one in the near future, hehe. Hmm, first of all, I will need to find someone that I truly admire, though :=)

HI Nieves Welcome to linguaholic.com! Your English is already pretty decent, if you ask me! Why is it that you would like to learn Swedish? Are you planning a trip to Sweden or? Are you (already) into programming? Programming is really fascinating, yet it can be extremely difficult at times. I am somewhat a newbie in this field but I recently had to start programming at University. At the moment we are using Python, and later on we will move on to Java and other 'programming languages'. Have a nice day and hopefully see you in the forums soon. Lingua

linguaholic replied to haibuihoang's topic in Japanese Language | Discussion
Dear haibuihoang Thank you for sharing this lovely resource. I had a look at it and I really like it so far. I love the fact that I can just type in a Kanji and then I get all sort of information about the Kanji, such as JLPT level, stroke order diagram, sample sentences and much more. I would love to get in contact with you on Skype, if possible. lingua -
Need some help with a short text, please!
linguaholic replied to linguaholic's topic in English Language | Discussion
Denis Hard already suggested that I should drop the very. I can see the reason why the use of 'very' does not make sense her. I guess that this use of very is used in novels and such, but not in this kind of texts :=) I can see that it would make sense to split that last sentence into two sentences. Any suggestions for the 'new version'? :=))
